Museet indefra

The Bakkehus Museum opened in 1925 under the name of The Rahbek Memorial Rooms with support both from public and private sources. The museum was subsequently extended with memorial rooms for the poets Johannes Ewald and Adam Oehlenschläger. In 2002, the museum opened a new wing in which the Rahbeks’ kitchen has been reconstructed. In addition, there are the museum library and two rooms that are used for temporary exhibitions.

The building is today owned by Frederiksberg Municipality and is surrounded by a public park and a private museum garden.

In addition to the museum, Bakkehuset also contains an endowed apartment, which for a limited period is placed at the disposal of an outstanding literary figure. It is at the moment occupied by Morten Søndergaard and Merete Pryds Helle.

The museum is headed by Gertrud With, mag. art., and is a self-governing institution with its own board of management consisting of:

John Winther, chairman, formerly mayor.

Pia Funder, qualified secretary.

Claus Høxbro, solicitor.

Mette Winge, author.

Vibeke Andersson Møller, curator in the National Museum.

Peter Poulsen, author.
