Sparsely furnished as in Rahbek’s day, when it was mainly used as a communicating room. The mahogany furniture by the windows once belonged to Adam Oehlenschläger.

Note the great Norwegian Golden Age painter J.C. Dahl’s drawing in Indian ink and pencil representing Knud Lyne Rahbek, made in 1826. Dahl is best known for his landscapes, but here, with great sensitivity and insight, he has created a portrait of Knud Lyne Rahbek, who, as in contemporary written sources, is presented as a humorous, gifted and likeable man.

On the windowsill there is a terracotta bust made by Bertel Thorvaldsen in Rome. It is of Adelaide Johanne Brun, generally known as Ida Brun. She was the daughter of the authoress Friederike and the merchant Constantin Brun, who spent their summers at Sophienholm, where they held a kind of literary salon. Ida Brun was highly feted as a young woman and was seen as an ideal of femininity by many artists and writers of the time, including Thorvaldsen and Johan Ludvig Heiberg.
